Post subject: Which episode took your breath away?

I saw "Bodyguard of Lies" for the first time yesterday. And Cjay, I decided on that particular episode, because that is when Danny starts his spiraling down with hard drugs.
I have to say though that this episode had me captivated from the point of the massacre of the villagers to the end. Watching the individual actors' faces when they first come across that gruesome scene to the way each ended up reacting to it back at the base made you stop and think. Seeing Doc cut his moustache and just crying that he wanted to be clean got to me.

The other episode that had me reeling was in the first season when the baby Zeke was taking care of got killed. The image of that tiny hand in the helicopter stayed with me for weeks.

Have anyone else had a reaction to one of the episodes like this???

Nowhere to run, the scene between Danny and the mother of the kid he mistakenly shot, when he asks her for forgiveness, the hands at the end...

"Pushin' too Hard" when Captain Wallace is killed and Zeke tells Myron he's in charge now......and back at the firebase.... the empty boots, the rifle stuck in the ground, the padre with his religious vestments over his fatigues and Myron having to say something to try and comfort the men - very poignant.

Under Siege had quite an effect on me.
Especially the bit where everyone was running for the safety of the CP Bunker and Zeke called to Doc Matsuda to get outta the line of fire just seconds before an NVA soldier shot him in the back. And the bit where Ruiz and the guys were writing letters home to their families, sayin goodbye. thinkin they were all gonna die. Ruiz wrote to his Mum in English.
I loved the way Zeke and Lt didnt lie down and just die and I thought it was inspiring the way they gave the guys hope for survival. Despite the very low odds.

But it annoyed me to see how unimportant human life had become to not only that stubborn, over ambitious ladder climbing pencil pusher Cpt Heath, but to the pompous arse who congratulated them at the end. (I cant remember his name right now) But I wanted Zeke to deck both Heath and the higher ranked imbecile because they didnt care a damn about the welfare of any of those soldiers. All they cared about were their damned careers and how many brownie points theyd get.

And it made me so damned angry.

Under Siege was my favourite - the scene in the bunker when all the guys are trying to fight back the tears.

Also The Raid when Danny and Ru are getting on the chopper home and the final episode with McKay singing Wooly Bully and his chopper flying off in the distance. Both make me feel like crying every time I watch them

I agree with you Sheila about The Raid is up there being one of my favorites too. Of course I liked it because it showed Percell/Tony in a different setting than the jungle!!! LOL! You felt for both him & Ruiz when they went back home & just couldn't find themselves.

Nobody seemed to understand what they had gone thru or even cared. Ruiz's Mother trying to reach out to him but not quite knowing how to, the old man on his job telling him that WWII was the only real war....and then when he was on the roof talking to the pigeons. Then Percell having a hard time on his new job when they want him to help a new employee...a Vietnamese man, that girl being rude in the bar(man..I wanted to deck her!). Then the phone call between Ru & Percell at the end was so sad.
Griner having a hard time with his parents...they just wanted to forget the whole thing....even tried to ignore his blindness. Griner rolling down the hill with his dog by his side was poignant.

I had tears in my eyes during the show but really cried at the end with the way they ended it with McKay just flying off singing "Wooly Booly". Crying because it was the very END FINAL NO MORE of my favorite show!!! It was on for just 3 years but you felt like you knew these guys personally & were so attached to them!

There hasn't been another TV show..in my opinion.. like this since then.

I wanted to say just what you did cjay, but I had trouble writing what I was thinking. I agree there's never been another tv show like it and I doubt there will be. Its still as fresh now as it was when it first came out and no matter how many times I watch it, it never gets old. I loved all the regular cast and they are all superb actors. Thing is there are so many episodes that touched me, I remember when it was first shown and it was only on once a week, I couldn't wait for the next one, and when it finished my husband asked me what the hell I was gonna do now (he loved it as well). I wish they'd done the 4th season.

Just thought of another one - at the end when Horn killed the VC, and he said "this war's wrong" - the look on his face when Zeke threw the rifle at him and said "maybe, but that's not the point".

We've got both Ramon and Tony on tv today and would you believe that they're on at exactly the same time on different channels?

Hi, I'm new here and I just wanted to say that I love Tour of Duty. I've only watched the first season, so I'm definately behind everyone else, but I just adore the show! The messages the show teaches are just amazing. I just watched "Burn, Baby, Burn" and I love how it actually shows how the problem of racism was such a factor in the army, and how the news of the racism acts in the USA affected the soldiers fighting in Vietnam. The messages of the show still apply to today; everyone could learn a little by watching even one episode. I know I probably sound a little dorky, but I really believe it could do some good!

Hi Canadian girl! Welcome! Please feel free to post as all of us love to talk about our favorite show! One thing that I really like about the show is how they really tried very hard to show what it was like to be a soldier in Nam. I was a young teen then and it just reminds me of the newscasts at the time.

Thanks. There are so many good things to say about the show. The writers and actors are so talented!! I really like how the showed how it was to be a soldier, too. Its amazing, watching Tour of Duty, I've learned so much about the War; being a Canadian, the Vietnam War isn't too covered in school, so I didn't really learn anything about it unless I read about it myself.
