Post subject: Ep. Nowhere to Run... Do Hootches Have Locks?

I just watched the episode "Nowhere to Run". I loved it, of course, but I especially love when they found Percell with "Brenda". The little humour in the episode, like when the L.T. punches the bartender (I think that's who it was) and complains about his hand. I've watched pretty much the entire first season, and I was just wondering if the second and third seasons are just as funny? I'm really looking forward to watching them.

There is always a touch of humour in every episode , maybe just one line or a look, but its all part of the TOD experiance.

Even when I couldn't get hold of the videos and hadn't seen ToD for a few years, I could still vividly remember that scene with Taylor, Ru & Doc in the latrine.

Another little scene I love is in the episode Paradise Lost. Zeke, Horn and Lt are erecting a hut for the Montegnards. They're all doing their bit, hammering some nails in when Lt swings the hammer straight down onto his thumb. He pulls one hell of a face, wrings his hand in obvious agony and then crouches on the ground and is about to swear his head off, when he sees this little montegnard girl. He realizes he has to hold his tongue. Meanwhile Zeke is doing his level best not to crack up in hysterics, in the background.

HAHA! I loved that! I was just watching the episode from season two where we first meet Dr. Jen Seymour, and I am really confused. She gives Zeke her keys, after he's been asking her about a soldier's files, and then she expects him to NOT go into her office and look at the files! I am so confused!! Why would she do that?

Ive watched "For What Its Worth" about a hundred times LOL. And I wondered the same thing as you.
I was confused at first as to why she gave him the keys, and then got so angry with him when she sprung him coming out of her office.
But I think the whole key giving thing, was her way of helping Zeke relax about the fraternisation rule and the fact he was a lifer grunt dating a well educated "doctor".
It was her way of saying "I dont care what rank you are. I enjoyed tonight, and I want to see you again."
She was inviting him back for some hanky panky LOL.
I dont think him sneaking a peek at her files, even crossed her mind.
Which is why she was so ticked off about it, when he did.
But thats just my opinion.
What do the rest of you think?

I always thought that when she gave him the set of keys he was supposed to use the one to her hootch, not her office. But there again, do hootches have locks?

She definitely had the "hots" for the Sarge but she was too much of a"debutante" to ask him outright to spend the night with her LOL

I absolutely agree.
Handing him her keys was a most subtle suggestion.
Does anyone think that MP bought Zekes story about Jen being a publisher, doin a story on his home town LOL?

Not if they are shared by more than one. That way they have locks on lockers; foot lockers; and etc. If it is an individual officer quarters then yes they will have a lock. I have not seen this episode that you are discussing so I can't say much more than this. Kaj...

Thanks Ernie. That makes sense and explains things quite well.
I dont know for sure, if Doctor Seymour had to share her hootch with any other female doctors. I dont remember ever seeing anyone else in her hootch. Or even seeing any partitioning as such. So Im going to assume she had the hootch all to herself. And as such, she *would* have had a lock on the door. And Zeke would have needed a key to let himself in LOL

I just watched the episode you are talking about and here are my comments. First she was contracted doctor and not altogether military like her boss (the butthole) and this is why she had her own quarters. It seems that the place where this show (TOD) takes place has moved to Tan Son Nhut airbase. I arrived at TSN airbase in late 1966, and left from a new airbase that replaced TSN. So from this they refurbished the old one I guess and it was used as a military base of operation. She had her own quarters because of all these changes in the show. Was camp Ladybird that close to TSN airbase?

I feel that she gave her keys to him to check on the medivac soldier's 'back problem' but he checked on the fragging soldier instead. I don't think she would have given him the keys to her hootch because why would he want to go with her not there?

Just my observations! The back problem was not as important as the chaplain getting killed by American troops and that is what ticked her off.
