Post subject: ToD Reunion Movie Campaign: VVA meetings

Posted: Tue Oct 10, 2006 14:05:19

I still have not gotten my Seasons 2 & 3 packets yet! I did not realize that it was that far from California! I am holding off on reading some of the archives till I have watched the rest. Cjay will get on my case if I ask a dumb question! He he he!

But, I have really made some progress with my post card campaign. I am going to present the post cards to the chapter tomorrow night. Wish me luck! Ernie...

Everything went well! At first, they did not seem too interested in the 'download postcards' approach that I was taking so, I changed horses in the middle of the stream. I suggested that they get ordinary postcards and write the message as I suggested. Each year VVA members get address labels (stickers) and a bunch of VVA logo with Support VVA etc., and I suggested that they put these stickers on the postcards when they send them. They were much more receptive of that and the president ordered a letter be mailed to the whole membership inviting all who would like to join in on the campaign to do so.

In the south we have an old saying, Go whole hog; or none at all! So I decided to go whole hog. I suggested a TOD DVD night for the chapter say every other week. Starting next week, on Friday nights they will have a showing of two eppys of TOD. They are going to have as many of the veterans and families as they can get to come together for this. The ladies are going to cook a meal. These Cajuns will go a long way to get some Gumbo or Mudbug etoufee. One man said that he was really going to get in on this as his teenage grandkids are not hearing anything about the Vietnam war and this is a good way to expose them to his war if the schools were not going to do it properly.

I loaned my DVD set to them for the showing. I hope it will generate a renewed interest in TOD among the VVA members. I also feel that they will discuss this activity with other state chapters. Hopefully, some of them will become more active in TOD sites as well as the movie project. Now Erika, I just hope California will have the other two seasons in by the time they are ready for them.

Sorry this is so long, Craig! Ernie...

Ernie, thanks so much for the update. It sounds like everybody is going to have so much fun with this! And we may gain some more fans.
If they like the postcards, I would be more than happy to print, cut, and send some postcards out to Louisiana. Just say the word and give me an idea of how many!

: Now Erika, I
: just hope California will have the other two
: seasons in by the time they are ready for
: them.

What? California well-stocked and ready for business? For sure, surely, LOL. We will not be caught flat on our heels, no siree!

Hmmm. You said you ordered Seasons 2 and 3 from Wal-Mart, right? And it's supposed to be coming from California? Maybe they're waiting on *Arkansas*? LOL

Well, I went to Amazon.com just now and put 50 copies of the Season Two DVDs and 50 copies of the Season Three DVDs in the shopping cart, and they tell me they're "in stock." (I did not go through with the order, LOL.) I don't know where the Amazon stock comes from, probably all over, but maybe that would be a good avenue when the time comes.

Ernie, If it doesnt look like youre gonna get your DVD's in time for the chapter meetings Friday nite TOD DVD fest, let me know. I can run you off some copies of whatever episodes you need and post them to you via express post. Rick and a few others who live in the USA have sent me stuff before, and its usually only taken 4-5 days tops to reach my mail box.

And may I say well done getting the TOD message across to all your friends in the VA.
I think the idea to add the VA stickers etc... is a brilliant one. It will really make the networks and press contacts sit up and take notice.
And if its not being rude, can I make a suggestion?
Why dont you call up your local newspaper/TV/radio stations and invite them to attend one of the chapters TOD DVD evenings. And subtly mention the VA's hope for Goldenhorse Productions TOD movie to come to fruition????
You might get your picture on the front page of the local paper LOL.
Or better still, you might get on TV?????
And we'd all stand and salute you LOL.

Great to hear that it was a really postive meeting ,your suggestion was a great idea. If other chapters take it on it will be great.

And Ernie don't apologise for long posts we like posts , long or short its what the boards for.

Thanks Craig. I like the idea of the media but I think that I would like to see how the first session goes. I am hoping for a good crowd. Especially with some teens in the crowd. I have been in the paper before. I took a photo of a cross in 'Nam in 1967 that turned out fantastic and the paper did an article of it in 2003. They have done a lot of for us in VVA. Will let you know how it goes.

I have the first season and they are going to do 2 eppys first so it will be a while before they need the other two seasons. This is a new thing so we can hope for the best. Someone will be aware of TOD and the movie project and that is my goal. A grassroots campaign that gains momentum. Ernie...

We had 33 people at the TOD viewing and that is a good crowd for our small chapter. The president said that he is going to invite the media to attend the next one in two weeks. We will see. They really enjoyed it and only four of them had seen the show originally so we are making some new fans.
Now I am ticked at my new set. The second season had the labels on disk 1 and 3 switched and I ended up watching the episode where McKay is shot down and Lt. and Alex insist on finding him. I just got into the middle of something but now I will get it in the right order. They just don't make 'em like they used to! Tsk! Ernie...

Ernie
Im so happy for you that your DVDs finally arrived. Youve been so extremely patient, waiting for them to be delivered.
I just know youre gonna love watching them.
I cant believe they stuffed up the labelling on them though???? How damned annoying is that?
Its awesome that the President of your chapter took my advice about inviting the media along for one of the DVD viewings.
It could just be the lucky break we've all been waiting for?
You see....I have a vision LOL.
I see you, and your fellow Vets on the 6pm evening news...
They'll show the whole group of you, sitting around a TV, glued to episode 58, the final episode of Tour of Duty,....
and the whole of America will be watching....going...Yeah? I remember that show LOL...Whatever happened to it????
and you will turn around and look right into that camera and tell the entire world how disappointed you are that TNT and CBS who aired the show all those years ago, wont back a certain independant movie producers idea to make a TOD movie.
LOL.

I will check the labels before I view them to get the right sequence.
I am working on the fans for TOD. Hopefully enough will get on board and the powers that be will come around. Ernie...

I got an email from Sherry and her words were the '...project is off the ground' and they are trying to get the celebs back together for another meeting. Because of work activities the stars were difficult to get together but it would be after the holidays, and I assumed that was Christmas and New Years. Still slow to me but I am really excited about this project and it won't happen fast enough to suit me.

Even a little bit of good news is encouraging to me. I still want to work on the networks tho. Kaj...
