VIET KID: [speaking in Vietnamese]
VIET WOMAN: [speaking in Vietnamese]
VIET CHIEF: [speaking in Vietnamese]
NVA COL. TRANG: [speaking in Vietnamese]
VC SOLDIERS: (subtitles) Victory to the people!
TRANG: (subtitles) In the New Year, we will infiltrate all the cities... and attack all at once.
VC SOLDIERS: (subtitles) Attack everywhere! Attack together!
[3:12] Along The Trail
BAKER: You know, Johnson, the human body is like a temple. I mean, it's the only thing that you really, really own. So you gotta maintain it the best you can, man.
JOHNSON: Yeah, I see you maintaining all the time.
BAKER: Exactly, man, and that's what I don't understand. I mean, I do everything right. Everything wrong happens to me. I mean, I get the boils on my butt, I get jungle rot on my feet, now this?
ANDERSON: Baker, dysentery is the number one most common affliction afflicting the American infantry soldier.
BAKER: I'm not the common foot soldier, though. I mean, I'm always eating vegetarian; I'm exercising and doin' my isometrics.
GOLDMAN: Did you take your diphenoxolate tabs?
BAKER: Huh? I can't even say that word, man. Why me? I mean, why? Why not a pig, man? Like... like Ruiz?
JOHNSON: I know if I was a germ, I wouldn't go anywhere near Ruiz.
[4:15] I Can't Wait That Long!
BAKER: Feel how hot I am, man, feel this.
GOLDMAN: Alright, Baker. Alright, alright. I'll get you a medevac when we get to the village.
BAKER: I don't know if I can wait that long. Oh God, here it comes again, man.
GOLDMAN: Just hold on 'til we get to the village.
BAKER: I don't know if I can.
ANDERSON: (laughs)
BAKER: Oh, you think this is funny, huh?
ANDERSON: No, Baker, I don't think it's funny. There's nothing funny about the Aztec Two-Step. Except that it happens to someone as undeserving as you.
[4:38] American Coming!
VIET KID: [speaking in Vietnamese] (transl: Sir, sir, GIs are coming!)
VIET CHIEF: [speaking in Vietnamese] (transl: Go down to the tunnels. Hurry!)
VIET CHIEF: [speaking in Vietnamese] (transl: Ma'am, you lie here.)
[5:29] Bravo Enters The Village
GOLDMAN: Posey, get up there and check those battens.
BAKER: Percell...
PERCELL: What?
BAKER: I gotta go, man.
PERCELL: Baker, you gotta hold it is what you gotta do. Let 'em finish searchin' the ville.
BAKER: I don't care about them, man, I gotta go. I'm dyin'. I'm going.
[6:08] To The Bushes I Go
GOLDMAN: Hey there. Hey there. We're gonna look around here, alright?
ANDERSON: Johnson, over there.
GOLDMAN: She looks like she'd be better off in a hospital.
KIT CARSON SCOUT: [speaking in Vietnamese] (rough transl: Let us take her to a hospital.)
VIET CHIEF: [speaking in Vietnamese] (rough transl: She will stay here, (else) she will die.)
KIT CARSON SCOUT: He says she cannot be moved. If you move her away from here, it will kill her. Sir, this is communist village. Don't believe all he say.
GOLDMAN: Alright, you tell him that we wanna help her. We want to get her some medical attention, help.
KIT CARSON SCOUT: [speaking in Vietnamese] (rough transl: We have medicine, the means to care for her.)
VIET CHIEF: [speaking in Vietnamese] (rough transl: She stays here. She lives and dies here.)
KIT CARSON SCOUT: He say her heart and soul belong here. She want to die here.
ANDERSON: LT. Look at this.
GOLDMAN [to Viet Chief]: Get up—!
ANDERSON: Johnson, get over here—
GOLDMAN [to Viet Chief]: Didi, didi—
ANDERSON [to Johnson]: C'mon, by the bed—
GOLDMAN [to soldier o.s.]: Watch him. Watch him—
ANDERSON: Check for wires, now, check for wires. Check for wires—
GOLDMAN: Get up, Mama-san. Come on. Come on—
ANDERSON: You cover us, Khoi—
GOLDMAN: Come on, get up—
JOHNSON: Clear over here, Zeke.
ANDERSON: Okay, clear for wire? Ready?
JOHNSON: Yeah.
ANDERSON: Get it done.
[7:04] Well Now, Well Now
ANDERSON: Well now, well now. Everybody clear. Fire in the hole!
ANDERSON [o.s.]: Comin' again. Fire in the hole!
NVA/VC SOLDIERS: [whispering in Vietnamese] Chạy... chạy... (transl: Run... run...)
[7:38] Aztec Two Step In Tall Grass
NVA/VC SOLDIERS [o.s.]: [speaking in Vietnamese]
BAKER: Aah! Ooh! Agh! Aah!
PERCELL: Sarge! I think it's Baker. He just went out there.
GOLDMAN: Try and get on their flank. Horn, you're with me!
ANDERSON: Alright. Percell, Johnson, come on!
[8:30] Get That Frog!
BAKER: Aaaah!
ANDERSON [o.s.]: Baker, where are you?
BAKER: Oh— aah— God!
ANDERSON: Baker, are you alright?
BAKER: It's alive, it's alive!
ANDERSON: What's alive?
BAKER: Ugh! Uh— ugh... God!
ANDERSON: How did that get in your pants, Baker?
BAKER: Agh!
JOHNSON: Sarge, they're takin' off!
BAKER: Shut up, let's go.
ANDERSON: Everybody spread out!
[9:09] Chase The Enemy Now
ANDERSON: Percell, you got the left. Johnson, you got the right. Come on, Baker, you're gonna stay with me. Get over there.
GOLDMAN: Johnson—no!
JOHNSON: Stay right where you are, buddy. Stay right where you are.
[10:22] We Have A Prisoner
ANDERSON: What have we got here? Oh LT, this is a genuine North Vietnamese Army colonel, yes, sir.
GOLDMAN: Yeah. Horn... Bravo-six, this is Bravo-two-six. Over.
PILOT [on radio]: This is Bravo-six. Go ahead, two-six.
GOLDMAN: Six, request an immediate dustoff and extraction for a Papa Oscar Whiskey and my unit. The November Victor Alpha is Oscar-six. I repeat, an Oscar-six, and he's critical. Over.
PILOT: Uh, Bravo-two-six, this is Skylark. We're in your sector. Just mark your LZ, we'll come in and get you.
GOLDMAN: Negative, negative. We can't find a suitable LZ. Over.
PILOT: Can you move to your north?
GOLDMAN: Negative. We gotta do a rope extraction. We're gonna pop some smoke. Over.
PILOT: Roger. You heard the man, guys. Let's get 'em outta there.
[11:08] Worms Under A Stump
VC/NVA SOLDIERS: [yelling in Vietnamese]
PILOT: We got your smoke, two-six. We got your rope comin' down. We'll have you outta there in no time.
ANDERSON: Come on!
PILOT: Alright, here's your rope. Hop on.
PILOT: I'm spotting zips in the bush to your Sierra. It doesn't look good, so let's move it, Lieutenant.
GOLDMAN: Affirmative.
[12:15] Rope Extraction
ANDERSON: Keep your eyes open, Johnson. Cover us.
PILOT: I repeat, there's movement in the bush to your Sierra. We're takin' fire! Come on, tie the guy on, now! Let's go!
GOLDMAN: Affirmative, we're hooking him up right now! Go—
ANDERSON: LT! LT!
JOHNSON: Is he alive?
ANDERSON: I think so!
HORN: We gotta get him up there, help him out! Gotta get him out of here, Sarge!
HORN: You got 'em?
ANDERSON: Yeah, yeah, I think so.
PILOT: Come on, my gunner's down! I can't wait any longer!
ANDERSON: Get us outta here!
[13:16] Three Puppets On Strings
BAKER: Yeah!
JOHNSON: Okay, let's go get 'em.
JOHNSON: This way, Baker!
[14:51] Evacuation Hospital
RAINES: Evac is on the pad. Triage team report to west entrance. Better move it, guys.
TUYET: Sounds like we got more customers coming. You’d think they could stop fighting for a few days, give us a chance to catch up with the ones we got.
RAINES: This man's got multiple injuries, no time for x-rays. Get him to OR now. ??? will need a metal detector to get that shrapnel out. This man's in shock, get him an IV or we’re gonna lose him fast. Oh my God. Myron! Myron! Myron!
ANDERSON: He’s gonna make it, now, he’s gonna make it. Come on, soldier, get him outta here. C’mon.
[15:29] I Know This Man
DR. AMES: We’re gonna bring him out of this, Nikki.
GOLDMAN: Nikki?
RAINES: You okay?
GOLDMAN: Am I? It’s a hospital, right? Right? Oh man. I’m seein’ two of you. That’s not so bad. Ah! That hurts.
AMES: You know this man?
RAINES: Yes, very well.
AMES: Looks like the bullet just grazed his skull. A quarter inch the other way—
[16:20] VC Needs Attention
NURSE: Doctor, this one’s losing blood fast.
AMES: Prep for op. Let’s move it! Coming, Lieutenant?
RAINES: Yeah, I’ll be right there.
GOLDMAN: Hey, you glad to see me?
RAINES: Not this way.
GOLDMAN: I’m okay. Hey. What’s wrong? What’s the matter?
RAINES: Nothing’s wrong. I gotta go.
GOLDMAN: Hey, Nikki, what’s the matter?
[16:50] Sarge's Feet Stink
ANDERSON: Hell, I didn’t even know I was shot till I got off the chopper. I mean, it didn’t hurt none. It musta' just gone right through me.
ANDERSON: Oh, the smell? Yeah, you’re right, it does smell. That’s American sweat, ma’am. Where there’s sweat, there’s life. Ain’t that right? What is your name again?
TUYET: Tuyet. Now, you going to need this. Come on.
ANDERSON: Whoa! I about took a header there, didn’t I? Heh heh.
TUYET: Now, you stay off that foot for few days.
ANDERSON: Are you gonna be the one changin’ my bandages?
TUYET: Uh, maybe. After you take shower.
[17:29] Keep The VC Alive
MAJ. BRAUN: We got a big one for ourselves, sir. An NVA colonel.
COL. TROWBRIDGE: Where is he?
BRAUN: Operating room.
TROWBRIDGE: Is he gonna make it?
BRAUN: He’s critical. Touch and go right now.
TROWBRIDGE: Pray for a medical miracle, then. We’ve gotta keep him alive. At least until we can interrogate him.
[18:00] Take Off Clothes
TUYET: Almost there. Just a little more. Here we are, end of line. Come on. Ea-ease— Oh. Ah. Okay. Take off clothes.
GOLDMAN: All of 'em?
TUYET: Just shirt and jacket, Lieutenant. Unless you hurt some place I no know about.
ANDERSON: Come on, LT, strip down for the lady, now. You gotta understand that’s a request we don’t get often enough.
GOLDMAN: So what’s the verdict, Sergeant?
ANDERSON: Who, me? Oh, this. Uh, it’s just a tiny piece of frag. Ain’t gonna keep me down, LT.
[18:48] Brass Visits The Wounded
BRAUN: At ease, gentlemen.
TROWBRIDGE: Lieutenant Goldman?
GOLDMAN: Right. Sir.
TROWBRIDGE: Sergeant Anderson?
ANDERSON: You got me.
TROWBRIDGE: Good, I got you both together. I’m Colonel Trowbridge, Military Intelligence. This is Major Ba Tho, my ARVN liaison, and of course, you know Major Braun.
ANDERSON: LT. LT, look what just fell out of your shirt here.
GOLDMAN: Souvenir. That’s why my ribs hurt so bad, and why I’m not dead.
TROWBRIDGE: It must have ricocheted off... Ha, C-rat jelly saved your life.
GOLDMAN: Hope it didn’t get my Skippy. Nope.
[20:12] Couple Of Medals
TROWBRIDGE: So, you’re the guys that bagged the NVA Colonel.
GOLDMAN: Yes, sir.
TROWBRIDGE: Where exactly did you capture him?
ANDERSON: Quang Tho. About thirty klicks north of here.
GOLDMAN: Yeah.
TROWBRIDGE: That’s unusual. The first time we’ve caught a high ranking officer like that, that far south. He tell you anything?
GOLDMAN: Uh...
ANDERSON: Ah, excuse me, sir, with all respect, we didn’t have a lot of time to chat with the man.
TROWBRIDGE: I understand. Name, rank, and serial number, huh?
GOLDMAN: No, sir, not even that. We were on the run. Oh, he, uh—hrm, had these.
ANDERSON: Yeah, when we captured him, he was tryin’ to burn those.
TROWBRIDGE: Holy... This could be a major break. You guys did good, you scored big here. Might be worth a couple of medals for you. As you were.
ANDERSON: Couple of medals.
GOLDMAN: Oh boy.
TROWBRIDGE: A Buddhist booklet. To Help Mankind. This other one turned up in November down in Tay Ninh[1]province on the body of a dead soldier. Don’t let the cover fool you. This book contains Viet Cong study documents for a, quote: “correct understanding of the new situation.” What it amounts to is they’re planning some intense, large-scale attacks. Only we don’t know where or when.
BRAUN: Khe Sanh’s under siege right now. We’ve got 6,000 Marines down in that valley.[2]
COL. THO: Could be another Dien Bien Phu.[3]
TROWBRIDGE: Khe Sanh’s way off by the Laotian border. A Viet Cong victory there, no matter how big, wouldn’t destabilize the government. And after all, that is what they’re ultimate goal is.
BRAUN: Well, well, well.
TROWBRIDGE: What is it?
BRAUN: He didn’t actually circle anything in ink, but look here. You can marks left by a fingernail. Either circling a city...
TROWBRIDGE: Saigon.
BRAUN: Or a military base...
TROWBRIDGE: Da Nang. Chu Lai?
BRAUN: Or pointing it out with his finger, like this.
BRAUN: Isn’t this near where he was captured?
TROWBRIDGE: Yeah. We got a forward firebase there, uh—Ladybird.
[21:16] No Questions For Now
AMES: There’s no way you can interrogate this man. Now, he’s just come out of a major operation, for God’s sake. You’ll have to wait.
TROWBRIDGE: Doc, let me explain something. We’re in a war here.
AMES: Is that so?
TROWBRIDGE: Yeah, and if we wait for that patient to convalesce, the war might be over.
AMES: I seriously doubt that, Colonel. Unless you’re planning a nuclear attack.
TROWBRIDGE: That man there has important information concerning communist battle plans. We need to find out what they are–now. I’m talking about saving lives—hundreds of lives, maybe thousands. American lives. Do you read me?
[22:00] Sarge On One Leg
ANDERSON: Oh, now, lady, don’t judge a man by how he moves on one leg.
[22:38] Go See Him
TUYET: You know, your, uh, lieutenant is cute.
RAINES: Yeah.
TUYET: I no understand why you don’t marry him.
RAINES: Tuyet, don’t do this to me, please. It’s hard enough as it is.
TUYET: Will you go see him? I’ll finish up here for you. Go on—go.
GOLDMAN: Come on in.
RAINES: Can't stay long. I’m still on duty.
GOLDMAN: That’s okay, we’ll get together later. Whenever you want.
RAINES: I appreciate that. So, are you gonna be here long?
GOLDMAN: Couple days, anyway. Got some bruised ribs, concussion. Nothin' major. Came pretty close to buyin’ the rice paddy, though.
RAINES: Yeah, I know. Not surprised, either. Only I envisioned it a little differently. Box with a flag draped over it—
GOLDMAN: Hey. Hey. I made it. I’m lucky. I’ve always been lucky. Tell you what, when I get outta here, you and I take a couple of days and hit Japan, okay? A little R & R?
RAINES: I just came back from there two days ago.
GOLDMAN: I thought we were going together.
RAINES: Things changed.
GOLDMAN: Who did you go to Japan with, Nikki?
RAINES: No one. I gotta make my rounds.
GOLDMAN: Hey. Nikki, whatever’s goin’ on here, you better let me in on it. Now, what happened? Did you meet someone?
RAINES: I told you, I went there by myself.
GOLDMAN: We were going to go together, what happened to change that?
RAINES: A lot!
GOLDMAN: What is it with you? What the hell’s hurting you?
RAINES: The— The D and C.
GOLDMAN: The what?
RAINES: The abortion. I had an abortion.
[24:20] You Got An Abortion
GOLDMAN: You got an abortion without even telling me? Without even askin’ me?
RAINES: I didn’t think I needed your permission.
GOLDMAN: Yeah, well, it was my baby, too, wasn’t it?
RAINES: Probably, yes.
GOLDMAN: "Probably yes?"
RAINES: Yes, it was your baby, okay? Does it make you feel better?
GOLDMAN: No. You had no right.
RAINES: I’ve got every right. It was my baby, and it was my decision, and it’s my future.
GOLDMAN: Yeah, well, the least you could’ve done is had the decency to tell me that you were doing it.
RAINES: No promises, remember?
GOLDMAN: That’s not fair.
RAINES: Myron, if I told you I was pregnant, what would you have said?
GOLDMAN: I don’t know what I would’ve said.
RAINES: Well try!
GOLDMAN: I probably would have asked you to marry me.
RAINES: I don’t want you to marry me because you feel you have to.
GOLDMAN: Well what if I felt like I wanted to?
RAINES: I can't, Myron, not in the middle of this, not now.
GOLDMAN: Hey, this is almost over.
RAINES: No, it’s not almost over. Don’t you understand? I don’t want to have a child whose father could come home in a body bag.
[25:22] Nurse Help!
MP #1: Nurse! Nurse, help!
RAINES: What is it?
MP #1: I don't know what happened. He was like that when I came in to look.
RAINES: Code Blue! Code Blue!
TROWBRIDGE: What's going on here?
RAINES: The tubes were pulled from his arm, sir. Somebody was trying to kill him.
TROWBRIDGE: Nobody—I mean, nobody—except authorized military and medical personnel in this room. Understood, soldier?
MP #1: Yessir.
TROWBRIDGE: You tell me everybody that came in this room while you were on duty.
MP #1: Well, sir, nobody but this nurse.
[25:48] Ask The Nurse Loaded Questions
TROWBRIDGE: You admit you were alone in the room with that colonel?
TUYET: I check his vital signs. I no try to kill him.
TROWBRIDGE: But you did know that pulling those tubes from his arms was gonna be fatal.
TUYET: I no pull out any tube. I loosen strap a little, that's all.
TROWBRIDGE: That's all? That man is a prisoner of war! Since when do you have permission to interfere?!
TUYET: If you're not careful, and strap is too tight, gangrene set in.
TROWBRIDGE: But you weren't worried about gangrene, now, were you?
TUYET: I am a nurse. I try to help, not try to kill.
THO: You were born in Hanoi. Doan Thi Tuyet.
TUYET: Yes, that is true. My family move from Hue[4]in 1954. We are Catholic, not Communist.
THO: Ah, yes. Now, who gave you orders to kill the colonel?
TUYET: No one! I tell you. I am a nurse. I am not Communist and I not try to kill anyone. And what you say it's just not true.
[27:07] Prisoner, What's Your Name
TROWBRIDGE: How are you feeling today, Colonel?
THO: [speaking in Vietnamese] (transl: Are you well, sir?)
TROWBRIDGE: First, we'll start with your name.
THO: [speaking in Vietnamese] (transl: What is your name?)
TROWBRIDGE: According to the Geneva Convention, we have the right to know your name, rank, and serial number.
THO: [speaking in Vietnamese]
TRANG: Nguyen Ai Quoc.[5]
THO: [speaking in Vietnamese] He insults our intelligence! Nguyen Ai Quoc is pseudonym Ho Chi Minh use when French were here. It means, "Nguyen the Patriot." He must be punished for his impudence.
TROWBRIDGE: Don't worry. If he doesn't tell us what we want to know, he will be.
TROWBRIDGE: We know your name is Colonel Le Van Trang, that you are on the general planning staff of General Giap,[6]and that you speak fluent French. And English.
TRANG: My English not so good.
TROWBRIDGE: Is it good enough to tell us who tried to kill you?
TRANG: I'm afraid I was unconscious until all the excitement was over. But the nurse... She was pretty, oui?
TROWBRIDGE: Colonel, what were you going at Quang Tho?
TRANG: Seeing the sights. Someday I hope to see all of my country together.
TROWBRIDGE: I bet you do. What is the meaning of the phrase, "Tong cong kich, tong khoi nghia?"
TRANG: You already know.
TROWBRIDGE: Yes, I do. "General attacks, general uprisings." What I wanna know from you is where and when.
[28:46] Where and When?
TRANG: Excuse-moi, I cannot tell you what I do not know.
TROWBRIDGE: This booklet was found in your possession along with a map.
TRANG: You have all the pieces to the puzzle. Please, put them together yourself.
TROWBRIDGE: I want you to tell me, or I'm gonna hand you over to my South Vietnamese colleague here.
TRANG: I will die, anyway. Nothing you do will change that.
TROWBRIDGE: Then you don't care?
TRANG: My country important. My life not important.
TROWBRIDGE: You have never defeated us in the battlefield, Colonel, and you never will. We have the firepower to bomb you back into the Stone Age.
TRANG: That may be so, Colonel, but you won't ever defeat us unless you are prepared to stay and eat rice for the next thousand years.
[29:45] Packing My Suitcase
RAINES: What are you doing this for, Tuyet?
TUYET: I have to leave this place, Nikki. They think I try to kill NVA colonel.
RAINES: Okay, but if you run away, that'll only confirm their accusations and they'll just come after you.
TUYET: I mean, how can they think I'd do such a thing? I'm a good Catholic.
RAINES: I know that, but they don't know that. I mean, you were alone in the room with the colonel, weren't you?
TUYET: How can you ask me that? What, you don't believe me, either?
[30:12] Hoping For A Birthday Card
TYRONE: It's my birthday, you know?
ANDERSON: What, today? How old are you?
TYRONE: Twenty-two. Heck of a way to celebrate, huh?
ANDERSON: Yeah.
TYRONE: I was hopin' I would get a card or something... from Le-Leticia. And it didn't come.
ANDERSON: The mail is slow here, you know? I mean, it, it could still be comin'.
TYRONE: I haven't heard from her in three months now, sir. She forgot about me.
ANDERSON: Oh no, I don't-I don't think that's-that's what's happened.
TYRONE: No woman's gonna want me now.
RAINES: You just get better first, Tyrone. The ladies will come around. Just wait and see.
TYRONE: Please... Please, don't leave me. I'm scared. I'm gonna die, ain't I? On my own birthday.
[32:01] I Can't Take It Anymore
GOLDMAN: Hey.
RAINES: I can't take this anymore. I see this every day.
GOLDMAN: Nikki...
RAINES: There's nothing left. Not for you, not for a baby—
GOLDMAN: Nikki, don't do this. Don't you shut me out. I love you.
RAINES: Don't you understand? That could've been you in there.
GOLDMAN: That wasn't me in there, was it? I'm still here, and so are you. I want you to be with me.
RAINES: Don't.
GOLDMAN: Listen... I want you to marry me.
RAINES: Marry you?
GOLDMAN: Yeah. I got a couple days off. We'll get the hell outta here, we'll go to Bangkok or Bali. Come on. What do you say?
RAINES: And then you'll come back and finish your tour?
GOLDMAN: Yeah.
RAINES: Then the answer's no. I'm not gonna let you break my heart, Myron.
GOLDMAN: I can't just walk away, and neither can you. I made a commitment—
RAINES: I'm sorry. I just cannot take any more pain, and being with you, I'm just asking for it.
GOLDMAN: Nikki, don't do this.
RAINES: Maybe we should just cut it off and not see each other anymore.
GOLDMAN: You're kidding.
RAINES: No, I'm not kidding. It's over.
[33:50] More Wounded Arrives
ANDERSON: LT. You look like you got yourself a double case of the blues, there.
GOLDMAN: Well you got that right, Sergeant. Something just happened. Didn't happen directly to me, but it feels like it did.
ANDERSON: This have something to do with your nurse?
ANDERSON: Oh come on, LT. Lay it on me, I mean, you can talk to me.
GOLDMAN: Yeah, Nikki was pregnant... with my kid.
ANDERSON: She didn't keep it?
GOLDMAN: No, she didn't.
ANDERSON: Well how she doin'? I mean, how does she, you know, feel about it? Have you guys had a chance to talk about it or anything?
GOLDMAN: She's done all the talking, and she's done all the decision making. Right now she's not happy about what I am or who I am. You know, I'm a lousy risk. A soldier.
[35:33] I Envy You, LT
ANDERSON: I gotta tell you, LT, uh... I mean, I hear what you're sayin' and... And I think I know what you're going through, and I'm real sorry. But hey, I envy you.
GOLDMAN: What?
ANDERSON: Hey, you gotta look at it from my standpoint. I mean, I ain't got nobody. At least you got somebody mad at you. I mean, all I— I got Sin City. I got people around me all the time, but I'm still alone, you know? You got somebody.
GOLDMAN: Yeah. I'm feelin' pretty lonely right now, though.
ANDERSON: Come on.
[36:18] Give Him Truth Serum
WOMAN: [speaking in Vietnamese] Yên lặng, yên lặng. (transl: Quiet down, quiet down.)
RAINES: She's beautiful.
WOMAN: [speaking in Vietnamese] Cám ơn. Yên lặng... (transl: Thank you. Quiet down...)
[37:28] Visit With Prisoner
TROWBRIDGE: I want that sucker shot so full of sodium pentothal, he'll wanna confess the first time he had a dirty dream.
AMES: Colonel, the man's still in critical condition. Sodium pentothal could kill him.
TROWBRIDGE: If we don't find out what he knows and find out fast, there's no telling what could happen. The communists could be planning to attack Saigon tomorrow, or this hospital tonight! I expect your cooperation.
AMES: I want you to know it's against my better judgment.
TROWBRIDGE: Then consider it an order.
AMES: Yes, sir.
THO: As you were.
THO: Your will is strong, Colonel. But I'm afraid even you cannot resist their drug, and we can't allow you to threaten our plans by speaking what you know. Be at peace. [speaking in Vietnamese]
[38:17] Nurse Hostage
RAINES: Hey! What are you doing?!
RAINES: Somebody help!
THO: Alright, stay back! Or I'll shoot her! Get up.
RAINES: Okay.
THO: Now!
RAINES: Don't hurt me—okay!
THO: Shut up!
MP #1: Get the prisoner out of here quick!
MP #2: Take his legs!
MP #1: Get Trowbridge!
THO: What are you doing? Move back!
THO [o.s.]: Move back! I want Trang!
TROWBRIDGE: Where are you taking this man?
MP #2: Anywhere. Somebody's trying to kill him.
TROWBRIDGE: What gives?
MP #1: Careful. He's got a hostage.
TROWBRIDGE: Who?
MP #1: Ba Tho.
TROWBRIDGE: Ba Tho? Ba Tho, what are you doing?
THO: I want Trang! If I don't find him, I'll kill her!
TROWBRIDGE: I know you hate communists, but...
THO: You're a trusting man, Colonel, but not too smart!
TROWBRIDGE: You play both sides, huh?
THO: With a decided preference.
TROWBRIDGE: Give me the girl.
THO: Stay back, Colonel!
TROWBRIDGE: I'm coming in.
[39:50] Myron Help Me!
MP [o.s.]: What's going on?
THO: Back!
RAINES: Everybody clear out, he's got a gun!
THO: Back or I'll kill her! Get back! Get back or I'll kill her!
RAINES: Myron!
THO: Shut up! Get away!
GOLDMAN: Nikki—
ANDERSON: Get outta here, get outta here.
GOLDMAN: Is there a way I can get at him from the back?
TUYET: Yeah, right this—
GOLDMAN: Where are the weapons?
TUYET: I'll show you.
