[01.47] Return to scene of battle
STRINGER: This is awful Carl. What a waste!
PRIEST: You’re right Colonel.
STRINGER: Damn right I’m right. We put enough artillery in this place to obliterate Pittsburgh and what’ve we got to show for it.
JOHNSON: Ferguson! Ferguson!
TAYLOR: He’s dead man. He’s dead Johnson.
SYKES: Found some web gear Colonel. Pieces. This, and one NVA headgear with a bullethole.
STRINGER: That’s all.
PRIEST: Like you said Colonel, too much time. They carried out all their dead and their wounded.
STRINGER: What’s your estimate?
SYKES: A lot of blood trails. I’d guess a body count of twenty or so.
PRIEST: Better make it thirty.
STRINGER: Thirty, hell!. Make it fifty. We know they were here an’ we know we hit them. What’s that?
SYKES: Ferguson, the RTO. They found him -- parts of him.
STRINGER: Any sign of Goldman or Anderson?
SYKES: No Sir. Nothing.
STRINGER: Order an air recon of the area and lift this company out of here, Three. And no duty for Goldman’s platoon tomorrow. They earned it.
SYKES: Yes Sir, Colonel Stringer.
STRINGER: Three good men blown to hell for nothing. Not one dink body. It’s a damn shame, a real damn shame.
[03.49] We're going to look for them aren't we
PERCELL: We are goin’ out to look for them before we pull out, aren’t we Captain?
SYKES: You heard the Colonel Percell. He called for an air search.
RUIZ: Captain, the Lieutenant was wounded. Him an’ Sarge would’ve gotten under cover, knowin’ what was comin’.
PERCELL: Or what if the dinks took ‘em. Either way, they’ll never see them from the air.
SYKES: Saddle up. We’re pulling out.
PERCELL: Well, how about it? You know it looks to me like we’re the only chance Sarge an’ LT got. I say we stay behind and look for ‘em.
RUIZ: You’re talkin’ AWOL Danny.
PERCELL: It wouldn’t stop either one of them if it was one of us in trouble.
JOHNSON: Look, there’s no way the four of us can cover enough ground to amount to anything.
PERCELL: At least we’d be doin’ somethin’.
JOHNSON: Yeah, getting’ our butts shot off.
PERCELL: Johnson, you’re not up to it?
JOHNSON: Yeah, I’m up to it. An’ I’d do anything for Sarge an’ LT. But this is dumb.
RUIZ: What about you Marcus?
TAYLOR: Wastin’ your time an’ mine. Even if they was alive, they could be anywhere.
RUIZ: I’ll stay with you Danny. But they’re right, we ain’t got no chance man.
RUIZ: Comin’? Come on man.
PERCELL: I’m tellin’ you. They’re out here.
RUIZ: C’mon.
[05.16] Burning upwind
MCKAY: Vertical vibration. The was she was pounding I thought I was gonna lose the fillings and maybe the teeth too. Just track the rotor, that oughta do it for now.
PERCELL: Any sign of ‘em LT?
MCKAY: No, nothing.
MCKAY: Latrine duty’s bad enough but man! Does he have to burn that stuff upwind?
PERCELL: It’s always upwind for the guy that had to burn it Lieutenant. Are you goin’ back out?
MCKAY: Not today.
PERCELL: Me an’ the guys would go with you. Four sets of fresh eyes an’ we might be able to see somethin’.
MCKAY: I’m going back at zero six hundred. You’re welcome to come along then.
PERCELL: Lieutenant, we shouldn’t wait. If LT an’ Sarge are hurt a few hours could make a difference.
MCKAY: Percell my chopper won’t fly. If I try to fly it, it’ll fall down. Do you understand that? It’s gotta be fixed.
PERCELL: Well couldn’t we ………
MCKAY: Dammit Private, I want those guys found just as much as you do but in thirty minutes it’s gonna be dark an’ that’s not enough time to do any good.
PERCELL: Well I’m sorry Lieutenant. I just feel like we oughta be doin’ somethin’.
MCKAY: Yeah, I know you do. A lot of us feel that way.
PERCELL: Well okay, we’ll—uh we’ll be here in the mornin’. Thanks.
MCKAY: Alright buddy.
[06.19] Taking care of business
RUIZ: I didn’t think you knew how to field-strip a rifle.
JOHNSON: Yeah Marcus. I thought all you could field-strip was somebody else’s wallet.
TAYLOR: I take care of business – different times, different business. Right now this business needs doin’.
RUIZ: You know, we coulda jumped off that chopper. We shoulda jumped off once we saw Sarge an’ LT weren’t gonna make it. We shouldn’t have left them man. We shoulda stayed with ‘em.
JOHNSON: Hey, come on Roo.
RUIZ: We shoulda dammit! Mighta made a difference Marvin. We mighta got ‘em out – alive.
JOHNSON: Man, I don’t know. I just don’t know. I mean, I feel ashamed, y’know but I can’t help but feel – if it can happen to Sarge it could happen to me now. Or any one of us. Maybe all of us.
TAYLOR: It always could.
JOHNSON: Maybe. I just know I felt safer with Sarge around, no matter how sticky it got. I don’t feel that way now.
TAYLOR: Listen at you two. You sound like two kids.
RUIZ: Oh shut up Marcus!
TAYLOR: If you’d jumped off that chopper, Sarge would’ve drop-kick your sorry ass back on it an’ you know it.
JOHNSON: What the hell’s the matter with you?
TAYLOR: You what’s the matter with me! Didn’t you learn anything from Sarge?
JOHNSON: Why don’t you tell me what I missed.
TAYLOR: I’ll tell you what he’d tell you now. He’d tell you to put this behind you an’ stay alive. You start expectin’ to end up in a body bag that’s exactly what’s gonna happen. An’ I don’t want you draggin’ me or anybody else in there with you.
[07.51] Meet Mckay in morning
RUIZ: So what about it? What’d McKay say?
PERCELL: He said to meet him at first light.
RUIZ: Yeah, at least we’ll be doing something.
PERCELL: Yeah, well. Little enough if you ask me?
JOHNSON: So what happened? What’s eatin’ you?
PERCELL: Nothin’! We need people on the ground lookin’ for ‘em.
RUIZ: C’mon man. You know the army has it’s way of doin’ things.
PERCELL: That’s a lot of crap. When we go out there tomorrow, I’m gonna tell McKay to set us on the ground to look for ‘em. You guys gotta back me up.
JOHNSON: As long as you don’t do nothin’ stupid.
PERCELL: All I’m gonna do right now is hit the showers, head for the club. Maybe a couple of beers’ll help me sleep.
TAYLOR: Cat’s comin’ unglued.
RUIZ: We all are man. You too.
[08.45] Important story
MCKAY: Alex…..
ALEX: I can’t stop in the middle of this Johnny.
MCKAY: Oh come on, no story’s that important.
ALEX: This one is. It’s about Myron an’ Zeke and I’ve gotta get it down while it’s still fresh in my mind. It’s the best piece I’ve written since I came to this war.
MCKAY: Wait a minute. Alex!
ALEX: What?
MCKAY: This says he’s dead. I came to tell you we didn’t find anything but you’ve already got him dead an’ you’re filling in his grave. I’ll admit you sent him off in style, but come on!
ALEX: I knew you weren’t gonna find him. He’s gone. Now, I’m sorry for that Johnny but I knew it was coming.
MCKAY: Alex, I know better than anybody how much you love him.
ALEX: It was over between us.
MCKAY: Oh come on, you’re lying to yourself. Goldman deserves better than this. Sure lie about loving him but don’t deny the guy his life. He’s not dead – he’s missing.
ALEX: I don’t wanna talk about him Johnny.
MCKAY: Alex!
ALEX: I don’t wanna talk about him.
MCKAY: Can’t you understand, I do.
MCKAY: You know, I’am sacred as hell that what you say it true. That they’re both gone for good.
[10.15] Call you sarge now?
CHAMBERS: Hey Johnson! I guess we can call you Sarge now, huh?
JOHNSON: We still got a sarge.
CHAMBERS: What’d you do that for?
JOHNSON: You said I wanna try an’ take Sarge’s place in the platoon.
CHAMBERS: No way man! I just saw your E-5 papers go through today. You’re on your way to being a Buck Sergeant.
JOHNSON: Hey, I’m sorry man. I tell you what the rest of Chamber’s beers on me.
CHAMBERS: Hey, come back tomorrow night Johnson. I’ll turn the other check.
[10.55] Drunks and jealous women
TAYLOR: You play this song Danny? It sounds like somebody ran over a dog.
PERCELL: It helps me think Marcus.
TAYLOR: What you got to think about Percell?
PERCELL: What’s goin’ on.
TAYLOR: What’s goin’ on? You mean what’s happenin’?
PERCELL: No, I mean what’s goin’ on. I can’t understand what’s goin’ on.
RUIZ: What’s goin’ on is one of us is getting’ real drunk.
PERCELL: Why aren’t we out there lookin’ for Sarge an’ LT? You know it don’t seem like the army is lookin’ out for it’s guys any more. It don’t seem like the army is in charge of this fight. Who is? That’s what I wanna know.
RUIZ: We are Danny Percell, us grunts. I’m General Ruiz an’ this here is Rear Admiral Johnson.
JOHNSON: Wait….why’s it gotta be Rear Admiral.
PERCELL: Hey come on guys! That’s bull. I’m serious. We kicked Charlie Cong’s butt at Tet. An’ they get rid of Westmoreland. That’s crazy.
RUIZ: There is it.
JOHNSON: Out of the mouths of drunks.
PERCELL: If they ain’t gonna send any more guys over here, to help us win this thing, well what do you suppose is gonna happen to us? They’ll leave us here until we all get zapped. That’s what they’ll do.
TAYLOR: Who’s this “they” you keep talkin’ about.
PERCELL: You tell me. Is it them long haired homos I keep seein’ on the TV? Is it the TV news? They lied about Tet an’ a whole lot more. The people back home, guys—hey, they don’t know what to think. You say “who?” Well I don’t know “who”. But I’ll tell you what, I just ain’t so hot to be part of it any more.
TAYLOR: Drunks an’ jealous women. They’ll talk your arm off without makin’ a lick of sense.
RUIZ: We’ve gotta meet McKay at oh-six-hundred. I’m hittin’ the rack.
TAYLOR: Me too. I’ve had about all the good time I can stand. Take it easy brother.
JOHNSON: You comin’?
PERCELL: I think I’ll have one more brew.
[13.47] Search for Myron & Zeke
MCKAY: If they can walk, they’ll be lookin’ for friendlies, so we’re gonna look a couple of klicks to the south.
JOHNSON: What if they can’t walk? Put us in, let us look.
MCKAY: Negative, it’s too slow. We’d be wasting what time we’ve got.
[15.07] Captured
[15.50] No volleyball
ANDERSON: How’s the leg LT?
GOLDMAN: Don’t count on me for volleyball. It’s hot. It feels infected.
ANDERSON: Maybe they’ve got a doctor.
GOLDMAN: I think I’ll stick with the infection.
FRICK: [Quiet – no talking]
GOLDMAN: Ah
ANDERSON: LT if these people get the idea that you’re slowin’ ‘em down, they’ll do somethin’ rash. Push up against me.
[16.52] Meal break
ANDERSON: Nice day ain’t it? Listen here, you got a doctor? Bac-si? My friend here has got his leg hurt. Doctor?
GOLDMAN: You’re breaking his heart.
ANDERSON: Hey, I notice you’re all havin’ lunch over there. Looks good. I don’t know about you LT but I’d like a—a cheeseburger, no onions, an’ a small order of fries.
DIEM: [You won’t smile very long American]
ANDERSON: Where’d you figure they’re takin’ us?
GOLDMAN: If they were gonna give us to the VC, they would’ve done it by now. I think we’re goin’ north.
ANDERSON: Well the further we get in their territory, the harder it’s gonna be to get away.
GOLDMAN: Yeah. If we’re gonna make a move, we’d better make it soon.
ANDERSON: Can you run?
GOLDMAN: Hell, I’ll fly if I have to.
GOLDMAN: Hey mama-san – untie, so I can eat.
MAMAS-AN: [Eat from the ground like a dog]
FRICK: [Eat, then put on clothes]
GOLDMAN: Wanna swap lunch? Mine’s got sauce on it.
[18.12] Paris
SIDDONS: That’s good. It’s very good. It’s the kind of story that made your reputation as one of our best.
ALEX: I’m flattered Mr Siddons.
SIDDONS: It’s the truth, not flattery. And call me Howard. But I didn’t fly all the way to Saigon to talk about your past work. No ma’am! I came to talk about your future. You’re going to Paris.
ALEX: Paris? The peace talks?
SIDDONS: The focus of this war is changing. The negotiation’s in Paris. That’s the next chapter of this story.
ALEX: But it’s not finished here. There are American boys who aren’t old enough to vote or buy a beer back home and they still being blown apart here.
SIDDONS: But what’s decided in Paris will have more to do with their futures than what happens here.
ALEX: If they live through what happens here.
SIDDONS: Alex, this assignment is a career maker an’ I want it to be yours. You deserve it.
ALEX: I don’t know. Listen, one of the men in that story – we were close and, I feel he’s dead – I’m almost sure of it. But I couldn’t leave without knowing. Do you understand?
SIDDONS: I do, but the kind of confirmation you’re talking about can take a long time. I don’t have a long time. I’m assigning the job before I leave for New York tomorrow night.
ALEX: I’ll know by then.
[19.33] Zeke in the river
GOLDMAN: Stop it, he can’t get up. Stop! Stop it! Hey, stop it.
DIEM: [Help him up Nguyen, or you’ll dig the hole to bury him]
ANDERSON: Thanks LT. ‘Bout to ruin my new suit.
GOLDMAN: You okay?
ANDERSON: Just wet. ??? get these ropes to loosen up a little bit.
[20.26] Dead foot locker
RUIZ: Danny! Danny! You got it, alright. One dead mother foot locker, okay?
PERCELL: We shoulda found somethin’. We shoulda found ‘em Roo.
RUIZ: There’s a damn war goin’ on man. They’re doin’ everything they can. Alright?
PERCELL: What is with you? You keep talkin’ the damn army line.
TAYLOR: Hey, put a lid on it!
PERCELL: Who are you to bitch?
TAYLOR: You think you’re the only one who feels the loss? You ain’t got no corner on feelin’s. Oh!
PERCELL: Maybe not, but it’s not yours to call. You weren’t there, remember? You had your nose so open for that lieutenant’s skirt, you couldn’t think straight. Sarge sent you home on a dust-off with the wounded.
TAYLOR: An’ you think I forgot that?
PERCELL: You coulda made the difference.
TAYLOR: It wouldn’ta mattered.
PERCELL: It might have.
TAYLOR: It wouldn’t ‘ve mattered! Your time comes, then it comes Danny. An’ that’s it. It was their time man.
PERCELL: ???
TAYLOR: ???
JOHNSON: Knock it off, now! ??? Break it up.
JOHNSON: We’re rollin’ out at oh-five-hundred. That’s six hundred rounds for the pig Roo. Rifles pack three hundred rounds plus four grenades, three frags an’ a smoke. Rations for one day.
TAYLOR: Where’d you get your information?
JOHNSON: Captain Sykes gave it to me. He also gave me your sorry butts.
RUIZ: Congratulations sergeant.
[21.56] Locked in cages
ANDERSON: Can you see the guard?
GOLDMAN: Yeah, he’s asleep.
ANDERSON: I could use some sleep myself.
GOLDMAN: I heard that.
ANDERSON: I figure we’re in the Boi Loi Woods somewhere.
GOLDMAN: There’s a branch of the Ho Chi Minh trail that ends somewhere around here.
ANDERSON: That puts us by the Saigon river.
GOLDMAN: About two or three klicks east I’m guessing. I figure they’ll keep us here, then put us on the Red Ball north.
ANDERSON: Well you know what LT? We ain’t the first one, I mean look at this little old cage.
[22.54] Not allowed to sleep
FRACK: [Wake up. Major Diem wants you to stay awake]
FRICK: [What the hell]
GOLDMAN & ANDERSON: Laugh
FRICK: [You knew I was sleeping there]
GOLDMAN & ANDERSON: Still laughing
FRACK: [What kind of fool sleeps where men pee?]
FRICK: [I’ll see if you laugh when I cut the puny thing off]
GOLDMAN & ANDERSON: Hysterical laughter
FRACK: [Americans dinky dau]
[24.00] Alex asks a favor
ALEX: Thank you.
MUOI: What do you need?
ALEX: The battle at Ben Cat two days ago. Two Americans might have survived. Would your VC friends know.
MUOI: Many have been killed. Mat Trang fills ranks with soldiers from North. Very risky to ask.
ALEX: It’s important to me. One of the Americans was Goldman.
MUOI: Many favors in the past.
ALEX: Which I’ve rewarded.
MUOI: Risk become greater.
ALEX: So does the reward. Here.
MUOI: I try.
[25.25] Hands free
ANDERSON: LT.
GOLDMAN: Yeah?
ANDERSON: I’ve got my hands free.
GOLDMAN: Can you untie your feet?
FRACK: ???
DIEM: ???
ANDERSON: Give me your feet!
GOLDMAN: Take off!
ANDERSON: Give me your feet.
GOLDMAN: Take off!
GOLDMAN: Forget it, he’s comin’. Get outta here.
ANDERSON: Alright.
GOLDMAN: ???
ANDERSON: I’ll be back.
[26.32] Caught by one-armed man
FRACK [o/s]: [An American has escaped]
DIEM [o/s]: [Everybody! Awake! Get your weapons]
DIEM [o/s]: [Spread out. He can’t be far away]
DONG: Dum lai
ANDERSON: Didi Mau. I don’t want to hurt you now. Get outta my way.
[27.05] What'd you think sergeant
DIEM: [You may give the lesson]
DIEM: What do you think Sergeant? Is there a lesson?
ANDERSON (thinking): English, he’s talkin’ English.
DIEM: [Help him to his feet]
DIEM: Do you understand Sergeant?
ANDERSON: Staff Sergeant – Clayton Ezekial Anderson. Aaah oow
ANDERSON (thinking): That’s a boot. That’s my boot. Those maggots took my boots.
DIEM: Citizen Dong lost his arm to the American Artillery. He hates Americans like all loyal citizens. The people of the countryside would have killed you if my men had not been there to protect you. Do you understand Sergeant?
ANDERSON: I hear you.
DIEM: You tried to go to the river but there was a field of mines in front of you. You were lucky that Dong caught you or you would have been killed. You were lucky twice. You escaped death at the hands of the loyal citizens and you escaped death on the field of mines. Try and flee again and I will execute you both.
DIEM: [I told him Americans destroyed your arm. Funny eh, Dong?]
[30.01] Strange without sarge
PERCELL: Tell you what, it feels pretty strange bein’ out here without Sarge.
RUIZ: I know. We’d have to be pretty lucky to get ourselves back this time.
JOHNSON: Hey come on guys. Don’t bunch up – watch your intervals.
TAYLOR: While I’m watchin’ the intervals, why don’t you put a muzzle on those two.
JOHNSON: Yeah, hold down the yaketty-yak. We’re not goin’ to the beach.
SYKES: What’s the hold up Sergeant?
JOHNSON: No hold up Sir. We’re underway.
SYKES: This is a coordinated hammer and anvil operation Sergeant. You know what that means?
JOHNSON: Yes Sir. We set up an ambush and the rest of the company drives the enemy towards us.
SYKES: And what happens if we’re not in position on time?
JOHNSON: It don’t work.
SYKES: Succinct Sergeant. I don’t work. So get with it.
JOHNSON: Yes Sir. Hey come on……..don’t bunch up,……..watch your step……… keep your mouths shut………..watch your intervals Taylor……watch where you’re pointing your weapon………..watch your step………..
[30.55] No news for Alex
MUOI: I’m sorry Miss Devlin.
ALEX: Nothing?
MUOI: They knew nothing. It was not their battle. It was NVA.
ALEX: Well isn’t there someone else?
MUOI: I know nobody else who would know of your friends.
[31.37] Prisoners, not bodies
SYKES: Be sure those Claymores are well hidden Sergeant.
JOHNSON: Yes Sir. I’ll check ‘em myself.
SYKES: And no trip wires, command detonation only. I was prisoners, not body count.
JOHNSON: Sir?
SYKES: THE NVA uses this Boi Loi Woods to connect with the Ho Chi Minh trail. Colonel Stringer thinks we might bag a few prisoners, get some up to date intelligence. Your men ready?
JOHNSON: Yes Sir. They’re ready.
[32.15] Search mission been terminated
ALEX: Johnny?
MCKAY: No. No, it’s not that. Nothin’s changed, they’re still just missing, but—uh the search mission has been terminated.
ALEX: Then that is it, isn’t it? The army thinks he’s dead too.
MCKAY: No, that’s not it. The air search mission didn’t find anything. That’s all it means. Look, there’s a company out there right now with orders to bring back prisoners. We’re gonna find out what happened Alex.
ALEX: No! I’ll tell you what happened. He died. He died fighting a stupid war that nobody cares about.
MCKAY: Alex look……
ALEX: (Don’t?) I do love him Johnny. I always felt his presence when he was gone…..but I know he’s not coming back.
[33.27] Train wrecks
GOLDMAN: Why do I keep thinkin’ about train wrecks?
ANDERSON: Wait till you see what I did to the other guy.
FRICK: hey didi
FRACK: [Why did you take so long?]
FRICK: ???
FRACK: ???
FRICK: ??? [ Damn it’s hot]
[34.27] Help from one armed man
DONG: [that way]
GOLDMAN: What do you think. Can we trust that guy?
ANDERSON: We don’t have any choice. Come on.
GOLDMAN: Great! What are we gonna do with a prisoner?
ANDERSON: Why don’t we just do what they do to us.
DONG: Americans. Didi mau. Didi mau. Didi mau.
GOLDMAN: I don’t think so.
ANDERSON: Listen, why are you helping us? We’re Americans.
DONG: VC. [VC take my arm]. American didi mau.
[36.09] Escape discovered
DIEM: [The Americans have escaped. Find Them. Search every building. Hurry. Find them. Attenion. Form up the company. We must organize a search]
MAMA-SAN: Dong!
DIEM: Dong.
[36.39] Questioning one armed man
DIEM: [Which way did they go? ----- Which was did they go? ------- Which way did they go?]
DIEM: [Move out. Double time, hurry]
[37.16] Waiting for enemy
NEWBY: VC! VC!
[38.03] Confirmed as it'll be
ALEX: It’s as confirmed as it’s every gonna be. The army’s even stopped looking for them, so…….
SIDDONS: I’m sorry Alex. I feel for your loss but you’re doing the best thing.
ALEX: Am I? I don’t know. I feel guilty for leaving but I can’t even bear the thought of staying here. Not now.
SIDDONS: I’ll take care of everything. Congratulations Alex.
[38.47] Searching for escapees
DIEM: [American weapons – Report to me quickly]
[38.49] In the ball park
RUIZ: I lost ‘em. I don’t see ‘em.
TAYLOR: You’re in the ball park. Keep firing.
JOHNSON: A saw ‘em – a few meters to the right.
PERCELL: Thumper. Use your damn Thumper.
[39.10] Irish VC
ANDERSON: LT, those are American weapons.
GOLDMAN: Yeah, an’ you look like an Irish VC. Hey, we’re Americans.
ANDERSON: We’re Americans.
GOLDMAN: We’re Americans.
RUIZ: They’re hollerin’ they’re Americans.
TAYLOR: Sure they are. I’m Ho Chi Min!
GOLDMAN: Americans!
ANDERSON: Americans!
[39.29] Planning attack
DIEM: [Americans here. You attach here, and you here]
[39.39] Only two of 'em
PERCELL: I don’t think the kid with the Seventy-Nine has ever used it before. Oh forget it, there’s only two of ‘em.
JOHNSON: Percell!
JOHNSON: Come on guys, give him some cover!
JOHNSON(?): Hold your fire!
[40.24] You Ok Percell
ANDERSON: Percell! Are you alright?
PERCELL: Sarge?
ANDERSON: Yeah. Yeah.
???: Percell, what’s goin’ on?
ANDERSON: C’mon.
PERCELL: It’s okay, it’s Sarge an’ LT.
???: Hold your fire – hold your fire.
JOHNSON: You see that?
RUIZ: Yeah, I see it. Alright!
TAYLOR: C’mon! C’mon!
[40.50] Under attack
GOLDMAN: Sir! Sir! It’s a company. NVA regulars. They’re hittin’ both ends of the line.
SYKES: Collapse the flanks, pull ‘em back. Set a perimeter.
GOLDMAN: Ruiz, ten meters to your right! Johnson, get up here! New fire lane, here to here.
ANDERSON: Percell! About ten meters out that way. Green line, thirty meters
PERCELL: We cirlin’ the wagons Sarge?
ANDERSON: Yeah, somethin’ like that?
TAYLOR: Anybody ever hear of General Custer?
ANDERSON: Look out!
???: I can’t see. I can’t see!
[42.07] Pulling back
GOLDMAN: They’re pullin’ back.
RADIO: Green River Six, this is Black Jack Six. The rest of Green River Company is one-half klick to your November Echo. ETA zero-four mikes. Hang tough. Out.
[43.00] You real ?
GOLDMAN: Are you real?
ALEX: I’m real. I’m here.
[43.14] Bad dream
ANDERSON: On man! I’m havin’ a bad dream. I ain’t even asleep an’ I’m havin’ a bad dream here.
PERCELL: Evenin’ Sarge.
RUIZ: Hey Sarge.
ANDERSON: Wh—whoa—whoa
JOHNSON: HI Sarge.
ANDERSON: Wait a minute Hold-it---hold it. Now y’all can’t do this to me. It’s against regulations.
PERCELL: What regulations that?
ANDERSON: My regulations.
JOHNSON: Well you gotta help us celebrate Sarge.
ANDERSON: Celebrate what?
TAYLOR: It’s Johnson’s promotion party. The boy made sergeant.
ANDERSON: You’re right. You’re right Johnson an’ I am proud of you, you know I am. And I don’t mean to be rude to anybody here but get on out of here now, let me get some sleep.
RUIZ: That’s okay Sarge. We’re gonna stay here even if it’s just to watch you sleep.
TAYLOR: Yeah, go ahead and sleep.
RUIZ: You’re our luck man.
ANDERSON: Yeah? Well you know what? Y’all are my luck too.
