[01.41] Captured!

MCKAY: OK let’s go. Cut us loose. Let’s go.

[03.30] Sorry display of soldiering

RICHLAND: Well damn me if this isn’t the sorriest display of soldiering I’ve seen since boot camp. Puts your hands up! Specialist Four Percell missed identifying a sentry in his sector. An’ you see the consequence. But do you know why? Because your whole damn team was movin’ like a bunch of turistas with the Tijuana twostep. Now all speed’s gonna get you men is a bunch of posthumous medals. This mission is about stealth and surprise. Now I wasn’t brought in here to waste anyone’s time, so ladies, we’re gonna do it again.

DUNCAN: Lieutenant Goldman

RICHLAND: Let’s go. We’re gonna stick at this till you get it right or drop dead from tryin’. …. back to the ??? position. Stay ??? this time ????

[04.42] Daddy's arrived

GOLDMAN: General. Sir

GOLDMAN SNR: How are you son?

[05.11] Stunk today

JOHNSON: Oh we stunk today

PERCELL: I stunk today. I screwed it all to hell.

TAYLOR: That time but what about the other four.

RUIZ: Yeah an’ I get the feelin’ we ain’t through yet.

HOCKENBURY: I can’t take much more of this.

TAYLOR: So we’d better get together an’ start actin’ like a team.

JOHNSON: That’s right man, we all blew it.

PERCELL: Might as well tell the NVA to stay home. Get Sergeant Richland to kill us.

HOCKENBURY: Yeah an’ the army doesn’t have enough choppers. We gotta start stealin’ some from the NVA.

HOCKENBURY: Oh man.

RUIZ: Here we go again.

RICHLAND: If you ladies are done fixing your hair I want you on the demolition range. Now!

[05.49] Proud of you son

GOLDMAN SNR: I’m very proud of you Myron. I always knew you’d be an elite soldier.

GOLDMAN: Thank you sir.

GOLDMAN: Too bad about your Colonel Brewster. He was a fine man. I knew him in Korea.

GOLDMAN: Best commander I ever had.

GOLDMAN SNR: Well have you given any thought to getting’ out of the field.

GOLDMAN: You’re dying aren’t you? How long have you got?

GOLDMAN SNR: Two months—three at the outside.

GOLDMAN: Why the hell didn’t you tell me before.

GOLDMAN SNR: When it was just lung cancer we thought I could beat it. Did a pretty good job. I was in remission …

GOLDMAN: And you’re still smoking

GOLDMAN SNR: Doesn’t matter. It’s ??? (latin?) . A runaway train.

GOLDMAN: And that’s it? Nothing they can do?

GOLDMAN SNR: No, so let’s not waste any time. We’ve got a lot of work ahead. Insurance, property transfers…..

GOLDMAN: Forgive me for being stunned.

GOLDMAN SNR: Don’t start with me Myron.

GOLDMAN: You walk in here and you tell me that you’re dying and I am supposed to stand here like a statue for an audience.

GOLDMAN SNR: Control your emotions.

GOLDMAN: Oh great. Control your emotions. So you’re gonna die just like you lived.

GOLDMAN SNR: I’m a little tired. Think I’ll rest for a while. See you at mess, eighteen hundred hours.

[07.30] Lifer talk Johnson

TAYLOR: Twenty more days Marvin an’ you haven’t got to worry about Richland.

JOHNSON: Hey come on. How we ever gonna forget this place man?

TAYLOR: You ain’t gonna forget this place Johnson. It’s the type of place that forges character.

RUIZ: Come on di-di di-di di-di.

RUIZ: So what you gonna do Marvin? I mean what are you really gonna do brother?

JOHNSON: I dunno man, it’s like part of me wants to stay here and part of me really wants all of us to go back home right now. It’s weird but I’m comfortable here. I don’t even know what I’d do back in the world.

RUIZ: Sounds like lifer talk Johnson.

[08.06] Private party

TAYLOR: whoa—whoa-whoa-whoa. My senses tell me this is the place.

DILLON: Sorry boys – private party.

JOHNSON: We just want a bit(?) …

DILLON: Anywhere else in town. This bar’s bought an’ paid for.

TAYLOR: Yeah well I don’t see no brothers in there.

RUIZ: Yeah, no hermanos either.

DILLON: You pick up the tab, you make up the guest list.

TAYLOR: Oh so this is some new rule?

JOHNSON: It’s alright. Let me ask you a question. Are you familiar with Article three four two of the Military Code?

DILLON: No, I’m not.

JOHNSON: Well it states that no matter how big you are, any three minority soldiers can kick your ass.

JOHNSON: (Come on man?)

TAYLOR:  ???

RUIZ: Yeah, we’ll go some place else.

[08.50] Angel

JOHNSON: Did you like the way I handled that?

RUIZ: Did you see that angel?

SUZANNA: So where we goin’?

RUIZ: What about your friends?

SUZANNA: Hey, if you’re skin ain’t good enough, mine ain’t either.

TAYLOR: Right on. Right on

[09.15] Letter to mama

ANDERSON: Hey Jackson. Jackson, hey—hey. Put on these gloves. You cut your hand I’m gonna have to write a letter home to your mama.

JACKSON: Okay Sarge.

[09.39] Just thinking

ANDERSON: Hey. You tryin’ to stare down the jungle there or what?

PERCELL: Just thinkin’.

ANDERSON: Oh. Army don’t pay you for that.

PERCELL: You ever play any sport Sarge?

ANDERSON: Yeah a little. Little baseball, little boxing.

PERCELL: I played football. Coulda been a pro if I was bigger, faster, stronger, better balanced. You know I fractured my ankle in my senior year , they told me I was out for the season. But I—er worked hard. Pushed it ??? up for homecoming.

ANDERSON: Yeah. How’d you do?

PERCELL: Two minutes to go, got the ball in the half-back option, rolled out to the left. Blockin’ was great. The end came wide open. I guess I was a little worried about my ankle. Anyway I was afraid to plant my foot so I kinda threw that ball fallin’ away. Line backer caught it. Ran tight past me for a touchdown an’ we lost that game.

ANDERSON: Well, those things do happen. But I don’t think you’d have gone out there if you didn’t think you were ready.

PERCELL: That’s my point Sarge. How can you really tell. I’m nervous.

ANDERSON: Percell, I am nervous every time I go out there. You’re just gonna have to lean on the guys around you.

PERCELL: Maybe—maybe I’m pushin’ the rehab.

ANDERSON: I don’t know anything about all that. What I do know is if you get the ball, you’re gonna have to throw it. So you plant that foot.

[11.38] Let's go eat

RUIZ: Would you guys just drop it an’ let’s go eat alright.

TAYLOR: All I’m sayin’ Johnson is ??? get in your face you’ve gotta toughen it out.

JOHNSON: I just got better things to do with my time than fight.

RUIZ: You hungry?

TAYLOR: Oh you mean we ain’t in a war?

JOHNSON: That ain’t what I mean man an’ you know it.

SUZANNA:  ??? oh come on

TAYLOR: Listen up Johnson, Tupelo ain’t gonna be like you remember. You were a kid man an’ Americans weren’t shootin’ their own in the streets. An’ they’re shootin’ mostly black Americans. Times have changed Johnson and that Uncle Tom crap ain’t gonna cut it.

RUIZ: (???)

SUZANNAH: Great ready when you are

JOHNSON: Look Uncle Tom ain’t got nothin’ to do with it. But a black man don’t always have to make a fist just to get what he wants.

TAYLOR: It depends on what he wants.

JOHNSON: Alright look—look.  ??? Marshall didn’t have to make a fist to get on the supreme court. OJ Simpson didn’t make a fist to win the ??? mens trophy. Andrew Young, Rock ???, Jessie ???

TAYLOR: Whoa—whoa—whoa nigger. That’s five out of twenty million an’ one of them could run the 109 in 4.

JOHNSON: Alright if you know so much. How do you see the rest of us getting’ what we want?

TAYLOR: I say we take it.

JOHNSON: Take it?

TAYLOR: Yeah that’s right. We take it. Ain’t that right Roo? Roo—Roo. Johnson

[12.34] Mama wouldn't like it

RUIZ: You know if my mom knew I was seeing a Mexican.

SUZANNA: You? If my dad found out I was seeing a Puerto Rican from the Bronx, he would fly over here and shoot us both immediately.

RUIZ: Immediately?

SUZANNA: Yeah. I’m not kidding.

RUIZ: I can’t wait to meet him.

RUIZ: Well they’re not as good as casarias(sp?)

SUZANNA: You like casarias(sp)? I cook great casarias(sp).

RUIZ: You cook?

SUZANNA: Mm. My mom taught me when I was a little girl. She worked a lot so I had to do the cooking.

RUIZ: I bet she’s proud of you.

SUZANNA: Yeah well, she thinks I should be married.

RUIZ: I think you’d make a great wife.

SUZANNA: But that’s not what I want right now.

RUIZ: No you want Vietnam instead.

SUZANNA: No, I wanted college nursing school, but I couldn’t afford it. After graduation one day I looked at my mom’s face an’ I saw my future, I said whoa let me get out of here fast. And so I went down and

RUIZ & SUSANNA: Joined the army

SUZANNA: That was the first time I was out of ???? in my life.

RUIZ: You’re crazy, but you’ve got a lot of guts.

SUZANNA: How about you. What are you doing here?

RUIZ: The President sent me.

[13.56] Only thing worse than army food

GOLDMAN SNR: Actually, I thought the food was pretty good. I’m just not hungry these days.

GOLDMAN: Well the only think worse than army foot was my mother’s cooking.

GOLDMAN SNR: That’s not why I married her. It’s just I was away so often and we both changed so much but in the beginning ..

GOLDMAN: Well why didn’t you just do everybody a favor. Get a divorce.

GOLDMAN SNR: I tried when you were five years old, but she fought me on it. So we reached an agreement.

GOLDMAN: Stay together for the kid.

GOLDMAN SNR: The illusion of a perfect marriage was important to your mother.

GOLDMAN: Well that gave you the best of both worlds didn’t it?

GOLDMAN SNR: I was always faithful to ???

GOLDMAN: All that time overseas? Give me a break.

GOLDMAN SNR: I wasn’t the one who had an affair.

GOLDMAN: You’re a liar.

GOLDMAN: If you weren’t my father.

[15.21] Let Sarge lead mission

DUNCAN: With Lieutenant Goldman on a three day pass, Lieutenant McKay you are the senior officer in charge. However, since field manoeuvres are not your specialty I strongly suggest you allow Sergeant Anderson to lead the mission.

MCKAY: Understood Major.

RICHLAND: Alright gentlemen. S-2’s got a pretty good idea where this NVA chopper’s based. It looks like a Russian made KA-15.

DUNCAN: And it’s spotting our cross border insertions.

ANDERSON: So we’re gonna take it out?

RICHLAND: Or fly it back, your call. Now due to the terrain, we’re gonna work on your arrival technique.

[15.54] Not in Vietnam for this

HOCKENBURY: I’d just like to go on record as sayin’ I did not come to Vietnam for this.

RICHLAND: Noted private. (On repel?)

HOCKENBURY: Aaaaaah

PERCELL: Hey Doc. What happened?

HOCKENBURY: I was falling.

PERCELL: Yeah well that’s the whole idea. Get goin’ I’m comin’ down.

PERCELL: Wait till you’re comin’ out of a ship. What a charge.

ANDERSON: Alright people, let’s go.

[16.30] 50 Bucks I don't need ya

WINSLOW: Now if you have to tear it apart try not to touch the electronic sensor equipment. That’s what makes that bird really special.

MCKAY: Piece of cake Winslow. I tell ya I’m gonna be in an’ out of there before you know it.

WINSLOW: No-one’s ever flown a Ruskie out McKay. This’ll go a long way to clearing up your record.

MCKAY: My record. Your’s makes mine look like a religious document.

WINSLOW: Yeah well if you do screw up, I’ll be there to pull your rumps out of the fire.

MCKAY: Fifty bucks says I don’t need you.

WINSLOW: Fifty bucks says you do.

MCKAY: You’re on.

[16.57] Wish you were coming LT

GOLDMAN: Come

ANDERSON: LT

GOLDMAN: Hey Sergeant. How’s the mission prep going?

ANDERSON: It’ll be nice to see some real NVA for a change. This Richland guy, he’s tough.

GOLDMAN: Yeah

ANDERSON: I wish you were goin’ with us.

GOLDMAN: Well, believe it or not so do I.

ANDERSON: Heard about the General. I’m sorry LT.

GOLDMAN: Well, it’s kinda out of the blue.

ANDERSON: That doesn’t make it any easier.

GOLDMAN: Well this one was never gonna be easy.

ANDERSON: Anything I can do?

GOLDMAN: Yeah, you bring everybody back.

ANDERSON: Consider it done.

GOLDMAN: Sergeant….. good luck.

ANDERSON: Luck ain’t got nothin’ to do with it. You know that.

[17.48] Mayor of Mississippi

RUIZ: Hey Percell.

TAYLOR: So Johnson. What are you gonna do, become mayor of Mississippi?

JOHNSON: Hey look I don’t have to be governor, but you know what? Maybe I can work for ‘em huh?

RUIZ: Yeah doin’ what Johnson, just gardening?

JOHNSON: No way Roo, this here nigger don’t pick no cotton no more.

PERCELL: Where’d this come from all of a sudden Johnson?

JOHNSON: I wouldn’t say it’s all of a sudden Percell. See I’m just startin’ to see the world through better eyes.

TAYLOR: You mean with blinders.

JOHNSON: Hey Marcus look. They already killed Kennedy and King, got the whole country rioting. Now the army ignores Phu An an’ gets rid of Brewster. This war’s just goin’ on for ever an’ ever.

HOCKEBURY: So what’s your point?

JOHNSON: See that’s what I mean. See maybe there ain’t no point, to us bein’ here an’ changes need to be made back in the world.

[18.29] Sharecroppers son

TAYLOR: Oh. I guess the sharecroppers’ son’s just the boy to do it.

JOHNSON: Look I don’t know what I’m gonna do but the government’s willin’ to give me a hundred and thirty dollars a month just to go to college. If I decide to go back to the world I might just take that an’ make somethin’ of myself.

RUIZ: You do that Johnson a’ I’m gonna make something of Suzanna Lozada.

HOCKENBURY: Who’s that?

JOHNSON: Some surgical assistant WAAC Roo met in Saigon.

RUIZ: We hump tomorrow. That means I got one more night to pursue an’ conquer.

PERCELL: Hey Roo. Maybe I should come along an’ give you a hand with that.

RUIZ: I don’t need no help brother. I’m on automatic pilot – a heat seeker, armed and deadly.

HOCKENBURY: Oh, man.

[19.18] Got a license

GOLDMAN SNR: Slow down—slow down. Watch it.

GOLDMAN: I got a license.

GOLDMAN SNR: I know. I remember when you took your driver’s test.

GOLDMAN: Oh yeah?

GOLDMAN SNR: Well your mother told me. Yeah I—I could even tell you what you were wearing.

GOLDMAN: Maybe, but you still weren’t there.

GOLDMAN SNR: We had a President who felt I should be somewhere else.

GOLDMAN: Oh. Well how did he feel on my Bar Mitzvah?

GOLDMAN SNR: Look Myron, anything I can say to you know is gonna ring kinda hollow but believe me at the time I had very good reason.

GOLDMAN: Well I didn’t think so. I just thought you didn’t like me.

GOLDMAN SNR: Well that’s silly.

GOLDMAN: No it’s not, it’s the way I felt. An’ don’t dump on my feelings just ‘cos you don’t understand them.

GOLDMAN SNR: Myron if you’re gonna kvetch at me for the next forty eight hours, maybe you should just turn this thing around and go back.

GOLDMAN: Okay, I’m sorry. I just thought I’d let you know how I felt.

GOLDMAN SNR: Maybe I can keep you from making some of the same mistakes that I did.

GOLDMAN: Don’t worry, I’m nothing like you.

GOLDMAN SNR: You don’t even know.

[20.21] Date with Suzanna

RUIZ: You look wonderful tonight.

SUZANNA: Thank you. You’ve told me.

RUIZ: Yeah well…

RUIZ: So how was your morning?

SUZANNA: In the operating room? Hell I didn’t know what I was getting myself into coming over here. Those boys. There are pieces of ‘em everywhere.

RUIZ: Yeah I--I heard that 7-15 Evac gets all the bad ones.

SUZANNA: After a while they stop being soldiers. You look at them and they’ve just becomes things. I’m so afraid that someone I know’s gonna come into the OR. I don’t know what I would do. I have these dreams about it sometimes.

RUIZ: You’re lucky. Dreams are the first things people lose when they come over here.

RUIZ: I am so glad that I met you Suzanna.

SUZANNA: Me too.

RUIZ: Spend the night with me.

SUZANNA: What?

RUIZ: We both feel the same things. Now is what matters. This is a place where, well you don’t think too much about tomorrow.

SUZANNA: (??? Spanish). I’m telling you my feelings an’ you’re trying to use them to get me into bed.

RUIZ: No…

SUZANNA: You expect me to sleep with you because you buy me dinner?

RUIZ: No. But what’s wrong with being attracted Suzanna? It’s the natural order.

SUZANNA: You’re just like every other guy ??? I’ve ever met.

RUIZ: Well maybe I’m proud of being a man with normal healthy desires.

SUZANNA: Well now I hope you have a healthy appetite too.

RUIZ: Suzanna..

[22.27] Two weeks in Hong Kong

PERCELL: They must want this Russian chopper pretty bad to be trainin’ us this hard.

TAYLOR: If we pull this off we ought to get two weeks in Hong Kong.

JOHNSON: No—no—no. Put mine on the back end of my tour.

PERCELL: Hey wait, Johnson that sounds like you’ve pretty much made up your mind.

JOHNSON: Well not yet, just--just thinkin’.

TAYLOR: Well while you’re thinkin’, think about this. You’re gonna be goin’ back to a place where people gonna be callin’ you “boy” an “baby killer”.

PERCELL: Soldier in a peace ??? world.

JOHNSON: Oh yeah. How about a black man in a white man’s world.

PERCELL: Yeah well we’ve all got places we’re tryin’ to fit into Johnson.

TAYLOR: You wanna talk about not fittin’ in, let’s talk about Doc.

JOHNSON: Come on, Doc’s alright.

TAYLOR: I ain’t sayin’ he ain’t alright. But we got eight guys out there droppin’ hot an’ he won’t carry a weapon. I think that kinda screws up with the odds, wouldn’t you say?

PERCELL: Taylor, why don’t you cut him some slack. You’ve seen him in action, the man’s willin’ to die for ya.

TAYLOR: Yeah well I want somebody that’s willin’ to kill for me.

[23.30] Going on mission

no dialogue

[24.03] Don't marry the army

GOLDMAN SNR: I can tell you one thing. War was a heck of a lot simpler in those days. The enemy was the enemy and we stayed on different sides of the line. No fraternizing with people who may be trying to kill you.

GOLDMAN: Yeah well the army’s sending a lot of mixed signals these days.

GOLDMAN SNR: You sound disillusioned.

GOLDMAN: No, I care.

GOLDMAN SNR: Don’t marry the army Myron.

GOLDMAN: Oh (laughs)

GOLDMAN SNR: Yeah, I know, I know. But for what it’s worth, my recommendation is keep your career in perspective, find yourself a nice wife, have a family. Because you can have both. You can be both.

GOLDMAN: Well you tell me why your career always came first.

GOLDMAN SNR: I don’t know. Maybe it was just something I understood, something I was comfortable with. No matter how bad it got at least you always had a chance. You could out-think the enemy, out maneuver ‘em, out-gun ‘em. You could even out-run them if you had to.

GOLDMAN: I thought you never ran as a soldier.

GOLDMAN SNR: Soldiering never scared me like having a family did. So here we are. Show me something I’ve never seen before.

[25.15] Searching for helicopter

No dialogue

[26.19] Dead centre

MCKAY: Alright, we’re dead center. We’ll recon all quarters from this point.

???: (???)

RUIZ: (??closer than counting horse shoes Sarge??) Fantastic.

TAYLOR: An’ hand grenades.

ANDERSON: Knock it off.

[26.48] Hit the deck

ANDERSON/MCKAY(?): Hit the deck, take cover. Hit the deck

MCKAY: Sergeant, I think we should definitely check this quadrant first.

[27.28] Letter to Suzanna

SUZANNA: Thanks.

SUZANNA (Reading Letter): Querina Suzanna…(Spanish) …

RUIZ (Voice over) : I didn’t want to leave without writing you this note. I’m sorry for the things I said last night. I was raised a certain way and it’s hard to change sometimes even when you know you should. As a soldier I was taught to conquer an objective. Perhaps that is not the best way to go out with a lady. I can only hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me. (Spanish) tu amigo Alberto.

???: He’s hemorrhaging Losado. Get back in here.

[28.41] Shortest route isn't best

JOHNSON: About three hundred meters around that side.

TAYLOR: About seven hundred meters around on the right side.

MCKAY: Okay that’s settled then. We go left, we follow Johnson. Shortest way around …

ANDERSON: Excuse me Sir, that’ll be a mistake now. Shortest route isn’t the best route. Look here.

MCKAY: Sergeant, we’re deep in Cambodia.

ANDERSON: Yes Sir.

MCKAY: They don’t expect us an’ they don’t booby trap their own turf.

ANDERSON: Yes Sir but there will be sentries around that Russian chopper.

MCKAY: Look Sergeant, I know the master sergeant said go slow but I don’t want to lose a chance at this bird. I mean what if they take off?

ANDERSON: We’ll track it down again Sir.

MCKAY: No, we gotta go round left.

ANDERSON: Sir, I strongly advise ???

MCKAY: I know Sergeant, but I’m pulling rank.

ANDERSON: Yes Sir.

MCKAY: What are you doin’?

ANDERSON: I’m givin’ the Lieutenant every opportunity to give the appropriate order.

MCKAY: Okay Sergeant Anderson. What would you suggest we do?

[29.40] Swamp

TAYLOR: What did you say to him?

JOHNSON: Nothing. I said the coast was clear

HOCKENBURY: You know there’s a whole lot of stuff floatin’ here in this swamp we don’t have cure for.

MCKAY: Tough Hockenbury. This is the least likely approach to the area so it’s the least likely to be guarded. Just keep humpin’.

[30.15] Favourite day

GOLDMAN: My favorite day with you….

GOLDMAN SNR: Do you have any?

GOLDMAN: Yep. Labor Day, I was twelve years old an’ you were shippin’ out for Japan the next day an’ you took me miniature golfing. Do you remember that? We played eighteen holes an’ you beat me on the last shot. But then you said “you still think you can take me?” an’ I said “Yes sir”. So we played another eighteen holes.

GOLDMAN SNR: Who won?

GOLDMAN: I did. Last shot, last hole.

GOLDMAN: An’ you know why I remember that day? Because there were so few of ‘em. That day you were my dad. But then we got back to the car an’ you started givin’ orders about what to do when you were gone. You were always the damn General.

GOLDMAN SNR: Myron you have a knack of remembering things only from one side.

GOLDMAN: I could say the same.

GOLDMAN SNR: At least I’ve tried to understand your point of view.

GOLDMAN: What about my mother’s? Did you ever think she didn’t give a damn about your career or your Medal of Honor. GOLDMAN SNR: How dare you.

GOLDMAN: Did you ever even consider her point of view the night she killed herself?

GOLDMAN SNR: I’ve accepted my responsibility for my part in your mother’s life and her death.

GOLDMAN: Well what about my life?

GOLDMAN SNR: I’ve always tried to treat you with respect.

GOLDMAN: You popped me.

GOLDMAN SNR: You were hysterical.

GOLDMAN: My mother was dead.

GOLDMAN SNR: And you blame me.

GOLDMAN: That’s right. I blame you an’ I blame myself. We were both feeling the same things an’ we should have been feeling them together but you just stood there and gave orders like always.

GOLDMAN SNR: When you hit me back, I knew I’d lost my whole family.

GOLDMAN: Oh no, you lost us years before that. You just weren’t paying enough attention to know it.

[33.19] Watch and wait

TAYLOR: This sucks(?). They’re all up an’ down the river.

MCKAY: Yeah an’  ??? all night. Why don’t we just pop ‘em Sergeant?

ANDERSON: Too risky from this distance. We wait here another twenty-four hours an’ look for a weakness. That’s all we can do.

[32.54] What's wrong Danny?

HOCKENBURY: Oh man.  ???? parts have gone to sleep.

HOCKENBURY: What’s wrong with you. You used to like these little field trips man. Ain’t nothin’ changed.

[33.35] Can take him out

PERCELL: Sarge

ANDERSON: Yeah

PERCELL: I can take him out.

ANDERSON: Alright, see you on the other side.

JOHNSON: What’s he doin’?

[35.52] All clear

ANDERSON: That’s is

MCKAY: Alright, let’s go

[36.06] Let's got for it

ANDERSON: ‘Bout twice as many of ‘em as we thought.

MCKAY: Okay Sergeant, what do you think?

ANDERSON: I say we go for it. Alright, just like practice only better. Ruiz—Percell—Johnson, you clear the quadrants lay claymores as you go. Burke—Taylor—Lieutenant, you mind this approach here. This is our way out. Doc, you keep your eyes open now, you’re our back door. Five minutes after ??? turn we rendezvous at PZ Delta. If you miss your ride gentlemen you’re on your own, escape and evasion. So don’t miss the bus. Let’s do it.

[36.57] Seen the General?

GOLDMAN: Excuse me Major Duncan. Have you seen the General?

DUNCAN: He came back at zero six thirty. He took his bags into your hootch.

GOLDMAN: Thank you Sir.

[37.23] Back on the mission

MCKAY: Okay you guys set(?). Taylor off over here. Burke off over here.

[39.02] Chopper won't fly

MCKAY: Come on Burke. Sing for me baby, come on. Come on. No

ANDERSON: What he hell’s goin’ on in there Lieutenant?

JOHNSON: Come on LT, crank it.

MCKAY: It’s a broken oil line

ANDERSON: No ??? we gotta get out of here. I’m gonna blow it.

MCKAY: Give me a chance. Give me a chance.

ANDERSON: Come on they’ve hit the claymores.  ??? let’s go LT

ANDERSON: Come on, get him outta here—get him outta here. Run I’m gonna blow it. Go—go—go—go--go

[40.02] Need some help

TAYLOR: Okay, Flytrap is ??? Movin’ to PZ Romeo.

WINSLOW: See your smoke Flytrap. Comin’ in.

TAYLOR: Heavy contact sierra sierra whisky of the clearing. We could use some help

WINSLOW: Roger. We’ll cover you as close as we can.

[40.00] Doc's hit

HOCKENBURY: I’m hit

ANDERSON: Get up Doc. Go-- let’s go--let’s go. Move—move. Go—go .

[41.13] I Am What I Am

MCKAY: If we should fail, we fail. But screw thy courage to the sticking place, and we'll not fail. Shakespeare.

HOCKENBURY: I am what I am. Popeye.

[41.48] Bank books, life insurance

GOLDMAN SNR: Bank books, self-explanatory. Military pension, life insurance, property deeds. The lawyer will handle the transfers. Er—safety deposit key, copy of my Will.

GOLDMAN: Sir. I don’t want any of this.

GOLDMAN SNR: I’d like you to come home on compassionate leave when……

GOLDMAN SNR: I used to think about you every night. I was sure you knew.

GOLDMAN: Some nights I did.

GOLDMAN SNR: The world is yours for the asking Myron. All you have to do it be man enough to stare it right in the eye. In retrospect, on some occasions, both your mother an’ I flinched.

GOLDMAN: That’s your Medal of Honor.

GOLDMAN SNR: These things represent the man I was. This represents the man I wanted to be.

GOLDMAN SNR: I love you son.

[44.06] Johnson's decision

TAYLOR: How’s the arm Doc?

HOCKENBURY: …… just grazed.

JOHNSON: Yo guys. Listen up there’s somethin’ I gotta tell ya. Come here. Taylor, I’ve been thinking about this a long time……

ANDERSON: Alright everybody. First Lieutenant Johnny J. McKay has an announcement to make.

MCKAY: Gentlemen, it’s a pleasure traveling in your company. This bar tab picks up your bar tab.

ANDERSON:  ??? go—go

PERCELL: Alright

JOHNSON:  ????

RUIZ: Sarge—sarge—sarge—Look, she wrote me back

JOHNSON: Yeah….

RUIZ: Can you believe that?

JOHNSON: Roo---Roo. Guys

RUIZ: Hey Doc. Hey Doc. Look

JOHNSON: Guys--guys

TAYLOR: What you all excited about? It’s just a stupid letter.

JOHNSON: Well guys. I made up my mind. I’m goin’ home.
